4th Quarter

4th quarter, if you know anything about the music business then you know 4th quarter is when the big dogs drop their albums. This years fourth quarter though seems a little bit lackluster. Many of the albums that people (like myself) were getting hyped on got their wig pushed back. Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre and Busta Rhymes. Even though many of the acts i was looking forward to didn't come out, their are more than a few notables that were released that you should check out. The first is the Eclectic rap duo The Knux. They are brothers from New Orleans that ended up in Hollywood after the tragedy that was Katrina occurred. Their Debut album titled ...Remind Me In 3 Days is one of the dopest, if not the dopest Hip-Hip albums I have heard this year. It is very reminiscent of Outkast in its genre-bending sound, but they do not sound like biters.. If i can recommend one album you purchase this year, I think this would be it.

Another Great 4th quarter drop was the underrated and under-marketed Theater of the Mind from Ludacris. I Think this is probably his best work since word of mouf. It is definitely a must to check this one out.

Then you got Kanye, who got plenty of publicity and hate for his departure from what is considered "hip-hop" to make a cd of him singing in autotune. I love it, it is a great album and I like the departure from his traditional sound, my only hope is that with his next album he goes back to the "college dropout" Kanye instead of the "Graduated" Kanye.

Next..
A cd Kanye executive produced that I am sure almost none of you have heard of. 88 Keys with his debut album titled "The Death Of Adam" it is a concept album
The album tells the story of an investigation surrounding the death of a man named Adam who was murdered in his Harlem loft apartment. During a recent interview in regards to the album's concept 88' stated:
“ The entire album is about the power of the punani, if you will. The album follows the story line of my man Adam who passed away and basically how he died. It all started off with him catching a boner one morning, morning wood, and his life starts to spin out of control from there.[1] ”
The story is told instrumentally, while the featured artists help get the story across. 88' has described that his inspiration for the project derived from the thought, "What gives me pleasure?" His obvious answer being pussy...
“ I thought, “What gives me pleasure?” So I thought, Polo clothes, blue label of course, give me pleasure, when I’m out coppin’. Making beats bring me pleasure. Money. I’m like, “Boom! I know what gives me pleasure! Pussy!” So as soon as that thought came into my head, I’m like, “Okay. I’m scrapping all the other beats I had made for my album so far, and I’m starting with this one. This is the first beat for my album.” And I just stayed on it.[2]
